The Ouroboros is an ancient Greek symbol of a serpent eating its own tail. It is a symbol of the endless cycle of renewal. As you know, the Gravel Roll is always looking for new things, new places, new adventures and, most of all, new fun.
Welcome to Veloboros at Phinizy Swamp, a brand-new gravel cycling experience coming to Augusta, Georgia on May 1, 2027.
What better place to experience the endless cycle than in an honest-to-goodness swamp? There are alligators, wildlife, and plenty of questionable decisions to be made.
We’re not going to hold you to traditional race distances. Instead, you can see how many laps of the swamp you can complete.
Choose your adventure: each one with a little more…souciant of the Snake Eating Its Tail.
3-Hour Veloboros - Usual Gravel Roll Short Course
5-Hour Veloboros - Usual Gravel Roll Intermediate Course
7-Hour Veloboros - Usual Gravel Roll Long Course
Each lap is about 6.5 miles of 100% unpaved, traffic-free riding through Phinizy Swamp.
Ride as many laps as you can as a solo rider or put together a team of up to six riders to complete as many laps as possible in a relay fashion.
Whether you are trying to win the race or just trying to finish the event, there is a place for you in the swamp.
Every Lap Leads Back to the Party.
At the heart of Veloboros is our central Party Village, where every lap begins and ends. The FOUR Fs of your friends, family, food, and festivities are never more than one lap away. So complete another loop, grab some food, socialize with your crew, or take a break before heading back out on the course. Or, just put your head down and grind away on your stem. We don’t care how you complete the event, as long as you are having fun. And, if you make a wrong turn, don’t worry about getting lost, because you can get a ride behind Uncle Orville’s airboat back on course!
You decide how seriously to take the challenge. We're just here to make sure you have a good time.
We have some swampy shenanigans in store as well.
Phinizy Swamp is home to an incredible collection of birds, alligators, and other wildlife, and we're incorporating that natural wonder into the experience with a swamp-themed scavenger hunt and other surprises throughout the day.
Keep your eyes open. You never know what you'll spot between laps.
Our goal for the day is a great day of bikes, friends, nature and fun. You can come to race, you can come to ride, or you can come to hang out with friends.
This being the very first year we are going to limit registration to 150 riders for year one. We want to make sure how many folks we can really have a good time with in the swamp.
