The Life Time Chequamegon MTB Festival returns to Wisconsin's Northwoods on Saturday, September 18, 2027. The headline Chequamegon 40, billed as the drag race from Hayward to Cable, is a point-to-point mass start from downtown Hayward over the American Birkebeiner ski trail, forest roads and snowmobile routes to the Derksen Family Great Hall in Cable. The 16-mile Short & Fat starts and finishes in Cable, and Little Loggers races are offered for kids.
First held in 1983, Chequamegon draws thousands of riders each year and is round 4 of the 2027 Life Time Grand Prix. Starting gates are seeded from past Chequamegon results, and a bus shuttles riders from the Cable finish to the Hayward start before the race. Registration for 2027 opens December 1, 2026; pricing has not been announced.
